What Was New in HP (3Com) VCX 9.0?

by | May 14, 2015 | Uncategorised

  • Common code base
    • “A Unifying Release”.  A single version of the VCX code is used for all platforms including Connect 100 on gateways and MSR Routers, Connect 200 and Enterprise on IBM and HP Intel servers and IBM Power Systems.
  • Forced Account Codes (FAC) & Customer Accounting and Billing Codes (CABC)
    • FACs are special digit sequences of 2-16 digits that are used to control external calls. They enforce and regulate the types of calls users can place based on the associated Class of Service. Even though users have FACs, they may not need to use it if the extensions they use to place the call have appropriate COS authorization for the number dialled. The account code and account name information are available in the CDR.
    • CABCs are sequences of 2-16 digits used to associate calls with accounts for billing purposes. A user can enter a CABC to specify that the call relates to a specific client or billing account. Each will be captured in CDR along with relevant call statistics (calling extension, phone number dialled, duration of the call, etc.). CABCs allow users to generate billing reports based on account codes / names or types of call, e.g. telemarketing, helpdesk, etc.
  • Call Admission Control (CAC)
    • CAC is used in Call Setup to prevent network congestion by monitoring and controlling bandwidth. The call is controlled based on the network region and site link used to identify a physical connectivity between two sites. You can set threshold limits for either bandwidth or number of allowable calls per network region or site link. If the thresholds are exceeded, a call will be routed through the local PSTN gateway of the calling party.
  • Automatic Call Distribution (ACD)
    • ACD routes calls to available agents, based on call-handling instructions programmed into the system. When the ACD receives an incoming call it will look for specific instructions as to how the call is to be handled. The ACD can route the call to an agent, a recorded message (or IVR system), or place it on hold until a live person can receive it. ACD systems can route calls based on many factors including agent availability and expertise and time of day. The states of ACD Groups can be monitored by ACD RTS Client. The Call Detailed Reports can be generated by CDR Applications. Two  ‘try and buy’ demo ACD licences are included
  • Active Directory/LDAP Integration
    • Allows administrators to use LDAP to perform a bulk import of all or selected users and extensions into VCX, creating user names and extensions and  assigning a default class of service; use the LDAP directory for user management (adding, removing and changing users and their extensions); synchronise changes made in the LDAP directory server with the VCX (one-way); do synchronisation once-off or periodically.
  • Region/Branch Configuration enhancement
    • Supports the region/branch configuration to VCX on IBM Power System deployments by utilising V6000 or V6100 gateways at branch offices. The maximum branch support has been increased to 50 total branches on a VCX Region-Branch Configuration.
  • VCX License Enforcement
    • In order for VCX services to load and run properly, VCX 9.0 MUST have the proper Right to Use (RTU) server license activation key installed. Note: Device licences are reported but do not seem to be enforced until 9.5. In addition to entry phone license, third party license, basic phone license, business phone license, etc, the following licenses are new: Desktop Communicator Softphone License; Desktop Communicator Outlook Edition Softphone License; ACD Agent License.
  • Lotus Sametime Support
    • Support for IBM Lotus Sametime Click to Call/Click to Conference and Telephony presence was previously available with the VCX on Power Platform only. This support has been extended to the VCX Enterprise (System x) products, as well as to Sametime 8.0 and Domino 8.0 running on Windows.
  • Lock/unlock Feature
    • The lock/unlock feature allows a user to lock a phone to prevent outgoing external calls. It allows the following even when locked:
      • Emergency calls;
      • Internal calls within the VCX or as defined in the Class of Service (COS) assigned to the phone.
    • To lock/unlock phone requires the password. If a phone is locked, the corresponding mapped LED will glow and a “lock” symbol will be displayed on the phone screen. A phone can be locked by:
      • dialing the feature code;
      • selecting feature mapped button;
      • using the phone menu.
  • FAX as PDF support
    • The FAX delivery format may be configured system-wide for PDF or TIF using the AppMon utility (parameter name FAX_format_type). The default setting for the format is TIF.
  • Auto-Attendant Enhancement
    • The Web User Interface allows the importing of Auto-Attendant and Music-On-Hold audio files. It allows audio files formatted in the IP Messaging required audio format (ccit u-law, 8 bit, mono).
  • Voicemail CODEC Configuration
    • The Web User Interface can display the current codec selected for use with voicemail. It can also allow the selected codec to be changed and provide an option to convert the format of the audio prompts and voicemail messages to match the selected codec.
  • Voicemail Language Pack Configuration
    • The Web User Interface supports the configuration of Voicemail Language Pack:
      • support for uploading, installing and activating a voicemail language pack on an IP Messaging system;
      • display which language packs have been installed on the system and display if the pack has been “activated” for use by the voicemail system;
      • support for deactivating and removing a voicemail language pack from the system.
  • IP Messaging Web User Portal
    • IP Messaging web user portal integrates with IP Telephony portal so that the user does not need to switch web portals depending on what operation he is doing.
    • The web UI user portal can display the voicemail available on a user’s mailbox and allow the user to play the voicemail message on the user’s PC.
  • Global Voicemail Central Server Subscribers
    • The Global Voicemail central server has been enhanced to allow subscriber mailboxes to reside in the same system. The Web User Interface can identify which voice mailboxes are local to the Global Voicemail Central Server and which ones are shown from being part of a Global Voicemail.
  • Localisation
    • US English; CA French; LAT Spanish; Brazilian Portuguese; UK English; Castilian Spanish; Parisian French; German; Italian; Simplified Chinese; Dutch; Russian; Korean; Australian English
  • Phone Identification
    • The following phone details on each device that is registered as a contact to an extension number are displayed on the Web User Interface:
    • Device’s model number
    • MAC address
    • Download image version
    • Serial Number
    • (Note: The supported phones include 3102B, 3101B, 3101 Speaker B, 3105B and 3103A)
  • VCX System Configuration & Statistics
    • The System Information screen can display all configuration information provided to the system when it was first configured or reconfigured – constrained to each server only. It can also display the system activity data that is collected from the Linux operating system. The displayed information includes CPU utilisation, swapping statistics, memory statistics, I/O and transfer rate statistics.
  • Desktop Communicator
    • Unified Communications (UC) client for PC
    • Softphone – no desk handset required
    • Low cost conferencing
    • Video option
    • Requires post-VCX9 phone licence
    • Alternative to Convergence Center Client softphone
  • Sundries
    • Enhanced Call Pickup Groups – The maximum number increased from 100 to 200.
    • 3Com 3103 Manager Phone Select Button – The select button operation has been enabled across all menu options in a consistent manner.
